子夏：姓卜，名商，字子夏，孔子的高足，以文学著称。比孔子小四十四岁，生于公元前507年。孔子死后，他在魏国宣传孔子的思想主张。
贤贤：第一个“贤”字作动词用，尊重的意思。贤贤即尊重贤者。易：有两种解释，一是改变的意思；二是轻视的意思，即尊重贤者而看轻女色。
致其身：致，意为“奉献”、“尽力”。这里是要尽忠的意思。
