臧文仲：姓臧孙，名辰，“文”是他的谥号。春秋时鲁国大夫。居蔡：居，作动词用，藏的意思。蔡，国君用以占卜的大龟。蔡这个地方产龟，因此把大龟叫“蔡”。臧文仲藏了一只大龟。山节藻梲：节，柱上的斗拱。梲，房梁上的短柱。山节藻梲即指把斗拱雕成山形，在梲上绘上水草花纹。古时是装饰天子宗庸的做法。
知：同“智”。孔子认为臧文仲为大龟盖豪华的房子，为僭越行为，不智。
