冉rǎn有yǒu曰yuē：“夫fū子zǐ为wéi卫wèi君jūn乎hū？”子zǐ贡gòng曰yuē：“诺nuò，吾wú将jiāng问wèn之zhī。”入rù曰yuē：“伯bó夷yí、叔shū齐qí何hé人rén也yě？”曰yuē：“古gǔ之zhī贤xián人rén也yě。”曰yuē：“怨yuàn乎hū？”曰yuē：“求qiú仁rén而ér得dé仁rén，又yòu何hé怨yuàn？”出chū曰yuē：“夫fū子zǐ不bù为wéi也yě。”

The Master again replied, 'They sought to act virtuously, and they did so; what was there for them to repine about?' On this, Tsze-kung went out and said, 'Our Master is not for him.'

为：帮助，赞成。卫君：卫出公辄。辄是卫灵公之孙，太子蒯聩之子。蒯聩得罪了卫灵公的夫人南子，逃亡晋国。灵公死，辄为君。晋国想借把蒯聩送回之机攻打卫国，被卫国抵御，蒯聩也被拒绝归国。这种情势客观上造成蒯聩与辄父子争夺君位的印象，与伯夷、叔齐互相推让君位恰成对比。子贡引以发问，试探孔子对卫出公辄的态度。
